As you might know Valve announced earlier that pre-loading of the Counter-Strike: Source Beta would begin today, but an e-mail from Cliffe explains that it has been postponed:

--Jess Cliffe
No reasons were given and it's still unknown if we'll be able to play the beta on the 10th as promised, or if that date will be pushed back too.

A lot of new media has been released since yesterday. Besides a complete match report, Gotfrag also offer a download of the last MFAVP video featuring footage from the final and a post-interview with Hyper from EYE. Should you have missed the game you can of course download the demo as well.

As mentioned yesterday EYEs standin, and most likely now full member, IsKall (IceCold) played an outstanding match which has been noticed by all 33.500 people who saw the final on HLTV. CSNation caught up with him and their manager Divino after the game, for a brief interview:

CS-Nation: Do you have any association with former CPL champion team Eyeballers 9? [E9 later renamed themselves to Ninjas in Pyjamas, won the CPL, then moved into SK and are the team you see today]
Divino: It's the same organization, the Eyeballers organization, we were an old quake team, but yeah it's the same organization but not the same players.
For picture galleries you should visit Ampednews or Gotfrag who've pics up from every day at the event - including the final. And finally there's a 24 MB, 2:55 long video showing EYEs reaction when they won the decisive round and receiving their prize check.

     EYE wins CPL Extreme 2004 - August 2. - 2004

Team EYE from Sweden has just defeated their countrymen from SK in the CPL Extreme 2004 grand final for the 1st place and $30.000. Coming from the lower bracket due to a loss to EYE earlier in the tournament, SK was forced to win two maps - somewhat of a reversed role for Potti, Heaton, fisker, SpawN and ahl who usually goes undefeated through the upper brackets in these tournaments.

The match was played on de_inferno but it never became as exciting as you could've hoped for. In every aspect of the game EYE outplayed SK and especially one player deserves to be mentioned. EYE's standin "IsKall" played what must have been the match of his life and actually toyed SK around as he wished. Ending up with an individual score of 16-1 in the CPL grand final and against SK is just not something you see often, so EYE definitely chose the right player.

Expect more CPL media and aftermath shortly...

     Half-Life 2 in late September - July 29. - 2004

It seems like some of a deja-vu but new reports state that Half-Life 2 will be delivered from Valve to Vivendi Universal in a few days, which should end up with a release in (gasp) mid- to late september. The information comes from Half-Life Source, who recently has the opportunity to speak to Doug Lombardi, and they'll soon be heading to Valves headquarters to playtest the game themselves.

According to recent conversations we've had with Valve's Doug Lombardi, Half-Life 2 will be passed on to publisher Vivendi for final mastering and duplication within days for it's early August target. The official appearance will make store shelves sometime in mid to late September.
A couple of months and we'll propably all return to the adventures of Gordon Freeman and the CS: Source which enters beta in the near future.

     CS Updated - July 25. - 2004

A small update for Counter-Strike has been released through Steam and should take care of the issue causing people to crash while playing:

  • Improved shell ejection behavior causing errors
  • Restart Steam to receive the update.

     CS: Source trailer released - July 20. - 2004

The Counter-Strike: Source trailer which Valve used to show off the game at E3 2004 has now been released in high-resolution bink format. The trailer runs for about 2 minutes and features a battle between Terrorists and CT's on de_aztec.

The 93 MB is definitely worth the download, and you can grab it from 3D Downloads, GamersHell or Worthplaying.

     CS: Source preview - July 18. - 2004

CSNation had the chance to take a look at the upcoming Counter-Strike: Source which basically is CS ported to the new Half-Life 2 engine, and the review is now online. Highlights of CS:S includes new environment and world effects, new models and sounds, no shield, ragdoll physics and more. Here's a snip about the new models:

All weapons and items have been upgraded with new models, of course. The new weapon models are obviously improvements over Counter-Strike 1.6's set of weapons. Apparently, only the USP and Glock were nearly finalized at the time of my playtest. As for the rest of the models, Valve says they are currently in the process of doing a series of improvements on all the weapon models in an effort make them look as perfect as possible. The USP and Glock models looked damn sexy. If Valve plans on bringing every weapon model up to the standard that these two set, then we will see some excellent weaponry.
In addition CSN has an interview with Cliffe, who answers several CS: Source related questions:

CS-Nation: We know that most of our favorite maps will be coming back in CS: Source, but what about any new maps?

cliffe: Thus far we've upgraded Dust, Dust II, Italy, Havana, Aztec, Piranesi, Cbble, Chateau, and Office. More classic maps will be added to this list over time. One of our mappers, Ido Magal, has even made an in-house test map called Rockworld—based on everyone's favorite fragfest Iceworld.

Sticking with the CS tradition of ongoing development, new maps will come later on.
The beta-release of CS: Source is right around the corner for cafés and Condition Zero owners, so I'm just glad that CZ is a part of my gamecollection

     The end of WON - July 15. - 2004

I've just received an e-mail from Valve Software with a reminder of them shutting down the WON system in the end of this month. The shutdown will be initiated the 26th of July and will be completed on the 31st. Obviously this means that Counter-Strike 1.5 and other WON dependent games will no longer be playable on the internet.

    Entire message below:

    WON Authentication Ends July 31st

Starting July 26th, the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com.      The Titans wins ESWC - July 11. - 2004

The Titans from Denmark has just defeated SpiXel in the ESWC grand final by 13-11 in a thriller on de_dust2. Both pistolrounds was won by Titans which gave them somewhat of a boost, but SpiXel fought very well and took several rounds home. First half with Titans as CT's ended 7-5 in Titans favor but SpiXel managed to take the game all the way to 12-11 before The Titans brought the final round home by a margin.

The shoutcast was an extra plus for the experience, with former topplayer Vesslan as the expert, but on a more sad note the HLTV went down after just 3 rounds which caused some of a chaos among the online spectators. This is the first major victory for the Danes who've gone undefeated through the tournament, and the 1st place secures them $40.000 - a part of these money will be used on the next huge CPL event next month, where the Titans can now attend as well.

The ESWC Counter-Strike tournament in general surprised most since all the title favorites (such as SK, NoA, Mousesports, Adrenaline etc) was eliminated by underdogs. Teams who deserve to be mentioned include TSG from the US who showed that americans can play as a team too, SpiXel who've done very well back i Sweden lately, and of course Virtus Pro from Russia who outplayed both NoA and SK sending them out of the tournament. Again, this is a reminder that most topteams can defeat each other if they 'hit the day', however, one might claim that the single elimination MR 12 system has something to do with it as well.

Expect interviews, videos, demo and other aftermath coverage soon.

     ESWC CS Final information - July 11. - 2004

The ESWC grand final between The Titans and SpiXel will begin in a few minutes (19.00 CET).

The Titans and SpiXel in the ESWC final - July 10. - 2004

The two ESWC semi-finals has now been played and it's now clear that The Titans from Denmark will meet swedish SpiXel in the grand final for the number one spot and the $40.000.
Both matches were played on de_dust2 and TSG, who have surprised many this event, played a very close and thrilling match against SpiXel. The outcome was 13-11 in SpiXels favour, so they secured the first spot in the final. The match between The Titans and the huge russian surprise Virtus Pro, who eliminated the two favorites SK and NoA earlier on, was decided a few minutes ago and the Great Danes was a little more than Virtus could handle. Final result 13-6 to The Titans who will meet SpiXel in the grand final tomorrow at 19.00 CET.

HLTV demos of the matches are available at Gotfrag.
